S.W.I.F.T. Self Help Groups

Testimonials

“I came to S.W.I.F.T. looking for a solution to a single problem, which had got me into situations that I was ashamed of. I found thoughts, ideas, and suggestions that continue to help me in many aspects of my life and my emotional sanity. As my life has changed, S.W.I.F.T. has continued to support me through difficulties and through situations which I would not have been comfortable verbalizing to my friends, family, and colleagues. The group welcomed me and listened with a caring, open-mind without judgment. I am thankful to the founder and to the members that a group like this exists in Toronto.”

I always shied away from conflict in my relations with people such that I had two coping methods – I would internalize the anger or lash out at the person, usually my husband. I have learned new ways to work on this challenge through S.W.I.F.T. members, and continue to progress through our discussions and learning from others.”

“I had tried other means of therapy with little success. My depression and anxiety were interfering in my life and my ability to function properly. I had heard about “Hot Seat” therapy and although the idea was terrifying to me, I was more terrified about not getting better. After a quick online search, I found S.W.I.F.T. and called to find out more information. That week I joined the group and through ongoing sessions, I was able to discover ways to change and improve my life and health. The group was able to reflect back to me and pull out things I was not aware of. It was a real eye-opener and was what helped me get back on track. I am still a work in progress and the tools I gained from S.W.I.F.T. continue to help me today. Maurice’s no-nonsense approach and the feedback from the group was invaluable and assisted me to set goals for a better life. I highly recommend this group if you are looking for self-help support.”

“S.W.I.F.T.self- help group has revolutionized my life and helped me to live out my dream. When I first came to S.W.I.F.T. many years ago, I was about to enter into a year-long residency program to become a hospital Chaplain. The previous clinical unit had left me quite devastated as amongst other things I felt a sincere lack of positive support and encouragement. One of my mentors suggested that I needed a support group, so I honored his wishes and contacted Maurice Bloch who founded the group. When I heard Maurice’s wonderful Scottish accent, and his reassuring words, I felt that there was some hope for me.
Entering into a positive setting where unconditional acceptance and genuine concern take place every week, I found the help that I needed to get through the rigorous internship program. Bringing my experiences and fears to the group helped me to pass into my advance Clinical Pastoral Education. Eventually, the S.W.I.F.T. group celebrated the joy of watching me to live out my dream as a hospital Chaplain.  Through the years, S.W.I.F.T. continues to be there for me as I face my challenges, obstacles, and disappointments as well as my many joys and blessings! Facilitating this group continues to be one of my greatest joys! Thank you to Maurice, Aileen and all of the S.W.I.F.T. members who have left a legacy of hope for others by giving back to this wonderful group!”
